Mining, Oil and Gas

With a mining, oil and gas sector practice that spans more than fifty years, no other firm in Panama has Arias, Fábrega & Fábrega's depth of experience.

From the mid 1950s to 2002, ARIFA acted as counsel to the only oil refinery that has operated in Panama. In 2002 this oil refinery was converted into a terminal and storage facility and is currently owned and operated by Chevron. For over five decades ARIFA lawyers negotiated concession agreements for the oil refinery and advised the refinery with respect to all aspects of its operations in Panama, and eventually successfully settling arbitration with the State in connection with the winding up of its operations.

In the petroleum industry, ARIFA also represents operators and users of pipelines and tank farms, users of oil free zone facilities, operators and users of port and marine terminals, gasoline distributors, natural gas importers and distributors, industry suppliers and lenders.

In the mining sector, the firm also has unparalleled experience. It represented RTZ Corporation Plc. in connection with the negotiation of the concession agreement for the Cerro Colorado copper mine and INMET Mining Corporation in connection with the negotiation of the concession agreement for the Petaquilla cooper mine.
