In a ceremony that gathered the best international lawyers in the Americas at the Waldorf Astoria in New York, ARIFA received the best Law Firm of the Year Award for Central America by the industry-leading publication The International Financial Law Review. It is the first time that a law firm in Panama is awarded this distinction.
In selecting winners for the national awards, the editorial committee of the International Financial Law Review consulted with private practice lawyers, in-house counsels, financing specialists and investment bankers, and looked for the firm with the best track record in 2008 giving local-law advice on the most innovative international finance deals, including, debt, equity and equity-linked deals, M&A, project finance and restructurings.
ARIFA and its team of leading lawyers in the fields of capital markets, banking, project finance and M&A were praised by their role in leading transactions such as the $250 million perpetual bond issue of Banco General, the $700 million Arcos Dorado's acquisition of McDonald's operations in Latin America, the $165 million financing of the Madden-Colon toll road, and the $180 million financing of the new coastal highway Cinta Costera.
