Judicial representation of Daiichi Chuo Kisen Kaisha before the maritime courts of Panama in the detention of the M/V Diamond Ocean

Arias, Fábrega & Fábrega acted as Panamanian counsel to Daiichi Chuo Kisen Kaisha before the maritime courts of Panama in the detention of the M/V Diamond Ocean, a Panamanian registered vessel under charter to Daiichi Chuo Kisen Kaisha.

M/V Diamond Ocean was detained by order of one of the maritime courts of Panama as a result of a petition to attach her cargo.  She was transporting a cement cargo for by Antilles Cement Company.  The attachment of the cargo was requested by MUR Shipping BV.

Our firm assisted and advised Daiichi Chuo Kisen Kaisha and its counsel in New York and Japan in order to have the vessel released as soon as possible. The relevance of our intervention was a successful petition to Court ordering the claimants to arrange for prompt discharge and deposit of the cargo, otherwise to allow the vessel to sail and avoid possible damages, which allowed the vessel to continue its voyage.
