Arias, Fábrega & Fábrega acted as Panamanian counsel to BBVA Bancomer, S.A., Institución de Banca Múltiple, Grupo Financiero BBVA Bancomer and WestLb AG, New York Branch, as Lead Arrangers, in connection with a US$584 million credit facility extended by a group of banks to Corporativo Grupo R, S.A. de C.V. 

The proceeds from the credit facility are being used to finance the acquisition of a deepwater rig under construction by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd.

The transaction involved the granting of one of the first mortgages on a rig under construction pursuant to amendments to the maritime law of Panama that was enacted a few days before the closing.
