Central America Law Firm of the Year, IFLR1000 (2010)

The excellence and leadership of Arias, Fábrega & Fábrega in international financial transactions has been once again recognized by The International Financial Law Review. For a second consecutive year, ARIFA has been selected as Central America Law Firm of the Year (2010). ARIFA is the only Panamanian law firm that has been awarded this distinction.

In selecting winners for its prestigious award, the editorial committee of the International Financial Law Review takes into account the track record of international transactions over the past year, plus in-depth interviews with corporate clients, private practice lawyers, in-house counsels, financing specialists and leading investment bankers in the region. The process includes an analysis of the most innovative international finance deals, including, debt, equity and equity-linked deals, M&A, project finance and restructurings.

Partners Fernando Cardoze, Eduardo de Alba and Ricardo M Arango received the award on behalf of the firm at the gala ceremony that gathered the best international lawyers in the Americas at the Waldorf Astoria in New York.

Some recent representative transactions structured with the assistance of ARIFA include: a US$1 billion offer of negotiable bank certificates of HSBC Bank (Panama) S.A. on the Mexican market; the sale of BNP Paribas Panama branch to The Bank of Nova Scotia; the reorganization and sale of Stanford Bank, Panama, to a group of Panamanian investors, resulting in the first successful bank reorganization in Panama; and the US$1 billion issuance of global notes by the Republic of Panama.
